'AFTER HOURS'

These are images which also follow my concept of the cinema and its role in society. Whilst working at Everyman I would regularly be assigned shifts known as 'closing' whereby we would be in the space 'after hours', hence the title of this series. My record finishing time was 4am, on this occasion I left as the cleaners arrived.

I was fascinated with the notion of a space that is usually filled with a vast expanse of people and sounds, entirely empty being prepared for the next day of operation. The sheer turnover and volume of people, popcorn and films that were churned out day-to-day in this environment was something that creatively sparked an interest in me, leading me to capture these shots, which I then edited to create a grainy effect thus emphasising the idea of film and cinema.

I also endeavoured to show the dramatic use of lighting and colour in such a space and how this directly and in some respects indirectly impacted the experience of customers as they ventured into the fantastical world of film.
